What Happened
The Schaeffler Group has joined the Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence (IPAI) in Heilbronn, Germany, a 30-hectare campus that is Europe's largest AI innovation park. The company will station about 30 employees there to collaborate with over 100 partners from industry and research, leveraging state-of-the-art digital infrastructure and a real-world laboratory to develop and test AI solutions for production and product development.
Schaeffler already integrates AI into products like the Hands Free Access Sensor, which uses AI pattern recognition for touchless vehicle tailgate operation, and the OPTIME ecosystem, which employs cloud-based AI for predictive maintenance. The company also uses an ECO Design Assistant that calculates CO₂ footprint of parts from 2D drawings using AI.
“Artificial intelligence is the key to accelerating development processes and designing innovative series products for our customers. By joining IPAI, we combine our deep industrial expertise with one of the strongest European AI ecosystems.”
“We are very pleased to welcome Schaeffler to our platform. The integration of valuable industrial domain knowledge into a scalable AI infrastructure is crucial for global competitiveness. Together with our community, we offer Schaeffler the ideal environment to transfer AI innovations from research directly into industrial application.”
