Subaru recalls eight 2026 Forester and Crosstrek SUVs over a ball joint nut that may be too loose
A castle nut that a supplier may not have tightened enough has led Subaru to recall eight 2026 Forester and Crosstrek SUVs and tell owners to park them.

What Happened
Subaru of America is calling back eight SUVs from the 2026 model year: the Forester and the Crosstrek. The problem sits at the left front corner, where a castle nut holds the lower control arm to the ball joint. That nut may have left a supplier's line without enough torque. Federal regulators file the defect under the front suspension's lower ball joint.

All are model-year 2026 Subaru Forester or Crosstrek SUVs.
If the nut backs off, the joint can break free of the arm while the SUV is moving, and the driver gets no warning first. Control of the vehicle can be lost as a result, which is why the automaker has told owners of the affected VINs to stop driving. The count is small, just eight vehicles nationwide, but the failure mode is sudden.
Dealers will check the ball joint assembly and confirm the torque setting, replacing any suspension parts already damaged at no cost to the owner. Subaru is notifying customers and setting up towing for the vehicles involved.
Owners should look up their VIN against the recall without delay, the advisory says, and leave the SUV parked if the search flags it. A nut that works loose gives no advance notice, so the check is the only way to know before a failure.
Why this matters
The recall is tiny, but the failure it describes is not: a ball joint that lets go mid-drive takes steering control with it and gives no warning. Anyone owning a 2026 Forester or Crosstrek is being asked to check their VIN before driving again, while dealers handle inspection, repairs and towing at no charge.
