What Happened
Tesla has decided the Cybertruck will never be built in a right-hand-drive layout, and as a result it will not go on sale in Australia or New Zealand. The company said all outstanding reservations in those two countries are now officially cancelled. Buyers who have been waiting on a place in the queue are being told their money is coming back.
- Every reservation in Australia and New Zealand is cancelled
- Customers receive complete deposit reimbursement directly through their original purchasing accounts
- Refunds are due within 30 days
- Customers ordering a Model 3 or Model Y instead receive twelve months of free access to supervised autonomous driving features on delivery
30days
Full deposit refunds to the original payment method
The cancellation means the Cybertruck is now effectively a left-hand-drive-only product. According to the reporting, that also rules out any future launch in other major right-hand-drive markets such as the United Kingdom and Japan. Tesla published the reservation updates on its own support pages.
“Tesla has concluded that Cybertruck will not be produced in a right-hand-drive configuration and will not launch in Australia or New Zealand.”
Why this matters
Hundreds of buyers in two markets waited years for a vehicle that will now never arrive, and Tesla is offering them a discount-like perk to move to its other models instead. The decision also closes the door on future Cybertruck sales in other right-hand-drive countries.
