What Happened

TVS Motor posted its strongest month ever for electric scooters in July, registering 52,108 units on the Vahan portal - a 121% jump from 23,592 units in July 2025 and ahead of its previous best of 51,632 units in March 2026. That gave the Chennai-based maker a 27% market share, up five percentage points from a year earlier. TVS says demand has climbed month on month since April, pushing its April-July total to 182,657 units, up 88% year on year and already 51% of its FY2026 sales of 358,025 units. With its iQube and Orbiter models, the company now sells one electric scooter for every five scooters it sells, aided by offering battery-as-a-service across its EV line-up to cut upfront costs.

July 2026 e-2W retail sales

191,949 units

Third highest monthly total on record, after March 2026 (199,411 units) and June 2026 (194,938 units).

July deliveries were 191,949 units, with 88,911 sold in the first half of the month and 103,038 in the second. Cumulative January-July retail sales reached 1.16 million units, up 57% year on year from 742,108, and the first four months of FY2027 produced 717,230 units, up 71% from 420,589 - 59% of the segment's record 1.21-million-unit FY2026. Four petrol price hikes in May, with petrol at Rs 111.21 a litre in Mumbai on August 1, accelerated the shift to EVs. The top 10 OEMs sold 181,233 units, a 94% share, while the top six alone accounted for 167,571 units (87%), leaving about 180 other players to split the remaining 6%.

Previously from TVS Motor Company

TVS Motor had already reported record quarterly sales of 1.63 million units in Q1 FY2027, driven by strong growth across all segments, according to previous MotorClaw coverage. That earlier announcement set the stage for the company's latest electric-scooter milestone.

Background drawn from MotorClaw's earlier coverage of TVS Motor Company's official releases.

Why this matters

India's electric scooter market is accelerating, with July retail sales of 191,949 units and cumulative 2026 volumes up 57% year on year. Petrol price hikes in May pushed more commuters toward zero-emission models, benefiting volume leaders TVS, Bajaj, Ather, Hero and Greaves, while Ola lost ground. TVS's battery-as-a-service offer lowers the upfront cost, helping drive demand for its iQube and Orbiter scooters.
