What Happened
Founded in 1946, Wrightbus has grown into one of the UK and Europe’s fastest-growing bus manufacturers, pioneering zero-emission transport with its range of FCEV and BEV double and single deck vehicles. For eight decades, the company has supported thousands of skilled jobs at its Ballymena facility and across a supply chain spanning 47 UK counties.
When Wrightbus was rescued from administration in 2019 by Jo Bamford CBE, a significant amount of historical archive material was lost. As part of its anniversary celebrations, the company is now working to restore its records and is calling on the Wrightbus community to contribute photographs, images, memories, and stories from throughout its history.
- Photographs of Wrightbus vehicles through the decades
- Images from rallies, depots, or factory visits
- Memories or pictures from family members who worked at Wrightbus in Ballymena
- Any stories connected to Wrightbus buses in service over the years
Why this matters
The 80-year milestone highlights Wrightbus's evolution from a traditional manufacturer to a pioneer in zero-emission buses, while the lost archive appeal underscores the importance of preserving industrial heritage.
