What Happened
XPENG's head of MONA R&D, Jiang Wen, took to Weibo on August 7 with an apology aimed at customers holding confirmed orders whose deliveries have been running late. The culprit, he said, was a chip crunch tied to booming global AI demand, which crimped high-end chip supply and cut into August output. That bottleneck has largely cleared, according to Jiang, and factories switched to double shifts this month — a move he said is close to doubling throughput. XPENG is targeting peak capacity by September or October.
The MONA L03 is the MONA series' first global model, sold at home and abroad with both pure-electric and extended-range powertrains in hundreds of configurations. Jiang conceded small swings in the build schedule but called the gaps minor, insisting Xpeng will deliver inside the promised window. An unnamed Xpeng vice-president said the early capacity ramp is slow but should jump once a particular milestone is reached. July was a gentle ramp, and the double shifts in August are lifting output sharply. With production climbing through August, Xpeng expects delivery capacity to keep rising over the next couple of months.

The MONA L03 launched worldwide in Munich, at 123,800-156,800 yuan.
A slow production ramp; Xpeng shipped 38,027 vehicles overall, up 4% year-on-year, with MONA L03 volumes held back by supply problems.
Factories moved to double shifts; supply-chain issues largely cleared.
Capacity expected to reach its peak.
Previously from Xpeng
Prior MotorClaw coverage described XPENG launching the L03 as an AI SUV coupe in Munich, with Google Maps integration via Auto SDK to power navigation and future ADAS features in overseas markets. That same coverage marked the vehicle's global debut.

Why this matters
Buyers with confirmed MONA L03 orders faced delays as surging global AI demand squeezed high-end chip supplies. XPENG says the issues are largely resolved and that output will peak in September and October, which matters for customers waiting 7–16 weeks and for the company's delivery targets. The production ramp is key to the model's record launch, which saw over 46,859 orders in the first hour.
Terms in This Story
- Extended-range
- A hybrid setup in which an electric motor drives the wheels and a small internal-combustion engine acts as a generator to recharge the battery when it runs low.
- Double shifts
- A production pattern where two crews work back-to-back periods, extending operating hours well beyond a single day shift to raise output.
