What Happened
ZF’s TraXon transmission, a modular automated manual transmission system for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, has reached a production milestone with the 1.5 millionth unit rolling off the assembly line. Manufactured across ZF’s plants in Germany, China, and Brazil, the TraXon has become a global benchmark for efficiency and performance since its introduction in 2014.
Original TraXon launched
TraXon 2 launched with faster shifting, digital integration, and improved fuel economy
1.5 millionth TraXon unit produced
“The original TraXon introduced innovations in transmission technologies that have set the standard for the industry. Thanks to its high performance and efficiency, it quickly established a global reputation as the benchmark transmission for heavy-duty commercial vehicles globally. With last year’s launch of the TraXon 2, we are building on that heritage with a transmission that delivers even faste”
The TraXon 2 features next-generation microprocessors, integrated security modules, software upgrades, and updated ECUs and shift actuators, enabling fuel consumption reduction compared to its predecessor. ZF is also developing the TraXon 2 Hybrid, which offers electric-only range for urban driving and switches to combustion for long-haul routes, aiming to meet the demands of sustainable transport.
Why this matters
The milestone highlights the widespread adoption of ZF’s fuel-efficient transmission technology globally, while the TraXon 2 successor improves performance and the hybrid variant paves the way for zero-emission urban driving.
