What Happened
The opening day of Auto e Moto d'Epoca Bologna — described as one of the largest trade fairs in Europe devoted to passion for engines and the biggest in Italy, running until October 25 — saw the launch of the new volume Alfa Romeo Giulia – Timeless Classic, which sets out the evolution of one of the Biscione brand's best-loved sports sedans. The launch took place at the Alfa Romeo stand with a talk featuring the author Lorenzo Ardizio, Curator of the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese; Eugenio Franzetti, Global Marketing Director at Alfa Romeo; and Alessandro Maccolini, Alfa Romeo Design Project Manager. Intertwining historical memory and direct testimonies, the three took the public through two generations of the Giulia, retracing the sporting legacy of the 1960s sedan and revealing some of the background to the creation of its contemporary successor.
“For those who, like me, have had the privilege of experiencing Alfa Romeo up close, the Giulia represents something deeply personal. It's one of those cars that manage to create an authentic emotional bond with their drivers, one with the ability to speak to the heart even before resorting to reasoning. The Giulia might be the contemporary epitome of the Alfa Romeo spirit: a car that continues to excite me every time I see it. A timeless automobile, one worthy of preservation, custodianship and being handed down for generations to come, from the very first moment.”
- Giulia TI Super (1963): the ready-to-race version of the Portello sports sedan, with a lightweight body, the Quadrifoglio emblem and a 1.6-litre, 112-hp twin-cam engine.
- 75 Turbo Evoluzione (1987): 500 units built for Group A Turismo homologation, with a 1,762-cc turbocharged twin-cam, intercooler and transaxle architecture with De Dion tube suspension.
- 155 V6 TI "ITC" (1996): built for the International Touring Championship, with a 90-degree V6 delivering 490 hp at almost 12,000 rpm.
- Giulia Quadrifoglio Super Sport (2024): a 275-unit special series with a 520-hp 2.9 V6 and mechanical self-locking differential.
The book opens with the foreword by Santo Ficili and traces a story that began long before the 2015 debut of the modern Giulia, reaching back through Alfa Romeo's legendary post-war sedans, the 1960s Giulia and the legend of the Quadrifoglio. It recounts the Giulia of the new millennium as a project initially shrouded in secrecy, the upshot of Sergio Marchionne's desire to return the brand to a truly leading role, developed by a group of designers starting from a blank sheet of paper. Through direct testimonies, technical insights and photographs, it covers design, mechanics, performance and driving pleasure, with a special position reserved for the Giulia Quadrifoglio and its most exclusive interpretations, including special versions and very limited editions such as the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa. Three of the four cars on the stand come from the collection of the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, and visitors can also learn about the Alfa Romeo Classiche services — Certificate of Origin, Certificate of Authenticity and the Restoration service.
Alfa Romeo Giulia – Timeless Classic is published by Giorgio Nada Editore and distributed by Giunti Editore, runs to 208 pages and carries bilingual text in Italian and English. It is available during the show at the Alfa Romeo and Giorgio Nada Editore/Libreria dell'Automobile stands, and can also be bought at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, at the Libreria dell'Automobile in Milan and in Giunti al Punto bookstores throughout Italy, as well as online at giorgionadaeditore.it and libreriadellautomobile.it, on Amazon and the main online sales channels.
The Giulia TI Super is presented at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza; 501 units are built, and it takes class victories including the 1963 Tour de France – Auto.
500 units of the 75 Turbo Evoluzione are built for Group A homologation and Alfa Romeo's official and private-team entry in the World Touring Car Championship.
The 155 wins the DTM with Nicola Larini.
The 155 V6 TI "ITC" is built for the International Touring Championship, its 90-degree V6 introduced mid-season to lower the centre of gravity.
The modern Giulia makes its debut.
Previously from Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo has recently put its heritage and special editions at the centre of its communications. In early October 2026 the brand refreshed its four-model line-up — Junior, Tonale, Giulia and Stelvio — with new interior materials, wheels, colours and equipment. Days earlier, at the Genoa International Boat Show, it displayed the Edizione Luna Rossa line-up, including a sold-out ten-unit Giulia Quadrifoglio special series.

Why this matters
The launch ties Alfa Romeo's current Giulia and its Quadrifoglio versions to a racing heritage that stretches back to the 1960s, and the stand pairs the book with the brand's Classiche division, which certifies and restores historic cars. It matters most to Alfa Romeo enthusiasts and classic-car collectors visiting Bologna, and to owners who use the Classiche services for certificates and restoration.
