What Happened
BYD (HKEX: 1211) will launch the revamped 2027 Seal 06 sedan at an event starting at 7:30 pm on August 11 in Shenzhen. Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean lineup sales division, announced the date in a teaser video released on Saturday. The new model will be sold in both all-electric EV and DM-i plug-in hybrid versions, and will come equipped with the God's Eye B driver assistance system featuring LiDAR.
It marks the first time the LiDAR-based God's Eye B suite has trickled down to a sedan at this price point — the outgoing Seal 06 EV makes do with the camera-only God's Eye C setup, badged DiPilot 100. Visually, the 2027 refresh switches to BYD's newer Ocean design language, adding full-width taillights and 18-inch wheels.
- New: 4,870 mm long x 1,890 mm wide x 1,495 mm tall; current: 4,720 x 1,880 x 1,495 mm; wheelbase unchanged at 2,820 mm
- New: 120 kW and 240 kW; current: 110 kW and 160 kW
- New: God's Eye B with LiDAR; current: God's Eye C without LiDAR
The plug-in hybrid version of the 2027 Seal 06 has a 1.5-liter engine and offers CLTC battery ranges of 170 km, 205 km and 230 km. The current Seal 06 EV, launched in June 2025 at the Chongqing Auto Show, comes in three variants priced from 109,800 yuan ($16,170) to 129,800 yuan, with a maximum CLTC range of 545 km. The new model's dimensions were disclosed in earlier regulatory filings.

What started as a single electric sedan has since expanded into the full Seal lineup, now central to how BYD competes in the budget EV segment. The nameplate moved 518,412 units in 2025, good for 11.26% of the group's total sales that year, but 2026 has been softer: July volume came to 40,399 units, down 13.77% from a year earlier, with the January-July count at 210,541 units, a 15.60% year-on-year decline.
Previously from BYD
BYD has been aggressive in expanding its driver-assistance offerings. In May 2026, it became the world's first automaker to pledge full damage coverage for intelligent parking and Urban NOA, the first such dual ADAS coverage in China.

Why this matters
The 2027 Seal 06 is the first BYD family sedan in this price range to get the LiDAR-equipped God's Eye B system, making advanced driver assistance more accessible to affordable EV buyers. The Seal series is BYD's main play in the affordable EV market, but sales have slowed this year, so the revamp is key to reviving demand.
