What Happened
Renault Geely do Brasil has begun local assembly of the Geely EX5 EM-i, a plug-in hybrid that becomes the first Geely product ever manufactured in the Americas. The venture confirmed the production start for its Brazilian operations. Output is now under way at the company's complex in the country.
The plant was fully modernized so that Geely's GEA architecture could be implemented there on an industrial scale. GEA stands for Global Intelligent Electric Architecture. Retooling the site was the precondition for assembling Geely-designed vehicles locally.

Why this matters
This is Geely's first manufacturing footprint in the Americas, giving the Chinese group a locally built product in Brazil through its venture with Renault. Brazilian buyers should see the plug-in hybrid in showrooms before the end of 2026, with a second model, the EX2, slated to follow from the same plant in December 2026.
