What Happened
Geely Auto announced that its first global plug-in hybrid SUV, the Geely STARRAY EM-i, has earned five-star safety ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP. The assessments cover adult and child occupant protection, pedestrian safety, and active safety performance, with the five-star ratings regarded as benchmarks for top-tier global automotive safety.
Developed on Geely's GEA platform, the STARRAY EM-i incorporates three native safety innovations: physical isolation, dedicated protection, and tiered layout. It features independent isolated channels for fuel tank and battery systems, a 140 mm optimized safety clearance to prevent fuel tank deformation, and a stepped underbody design with a high-strength anti-scratch beam below the battery.
In active safety, the STARRAY EM-i is equipped with 14 L2-level ADAS features including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). By 2025, the model had been introduced in more than 10 countries and achieved strong sales, including top-selling PHEV in Australia and TOP 2 in its segment in Mexico.
Why this matters
The five-star ratings from two leading safety assessment bodies demonstrate the STARRAY EM-i's world-class safety performance and reinforce Geely's commitment to safety in its global new energy vehicle lineup.
