Hyundai Mobis Opens First European Plant for Power Electric Systems in Slovakia

Hyundai Mobis has started mass-producing PE systems — the integrated electric powertrains called 'the heart of the EV' — at a new plant in Novaky, Slovakia, its first such facility in Europe.

Annual PE system capacity at Novaky
up to 280,000 systems
Investment in the Novaky plant
approximately KRW 250 billion
Site area
approximately 106,000 square meters
Total floor area
8,500 square meters

What Happened

Hyundai Mobis has started full-scale mass production of PE (Power Electric) systems at a new plant in Novaky, Slovakia, its first PE system plant in Europe. A PE system is an integrated electric powertrain unit combining an electric motor, an inverter, and a reduction gear. The facility is the company's third electrification production base in Europe, after battery system assembly (BSA) plants in the Czech Republic and Spain.

The plant has lines for stators, inverters, and other components.

The site, in Slovakia's Trencin Region, covers approximately 106,000 square meters — about 15 football fields — with 8,500 square meters of floor space. It has production lines for stators, a core electric-motor component, as well as inverters and other parts. Hyundai Mobis invested roughly KRW 250 billion in the facility. A Grand Opening ceremony on September 3 (local time September 2) drew around 100 attendees, including Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Sakova, Trencin Region Governor Jaroslav Baska, and representatives from the European Commission, customers, major suppliers, and local media.

To realize Hyundai Mobis' future vision, we will continue to invest and devote our efforts to establishing the Novaky PE system plant as a key electrification hub in Europe. Looking ahead, strategic models from global automakers equipped with Hyundai Mobis PE systems will lead the European electrification market.
Lee Gyu Suk, President and CEO, Hyundai Mobis

The plant is expected to serve as an integrated hub that supplies key electrification components to Hyundai Motor and Kia as well as global customers. Hyundai Mobis says it has developed its own core technologies and mass production capabilities across the EV component spectrum, including BSAs and PE systems. Its electrification production bases are located in Ulsan, Daegu, Chungju, and Pyeongtaek in South Korea, plus the United States, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Indonesia.

Strategic outlook for the Novaky plant
  • Europe's EV market is the second-largest in the world after China.
  • Slovakia is home to major global automakers including Kia, Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Volvo.
  • Through its CEO Investor Day, Hyundai Mobis has communicated a goal of increasing revenue from global customers to 40% by 2033.

Previously from Hyundai Mobis

Hyundai Mobis has been expanding its European manufacturing and EV component offerings. Earlier in 2026, it began operations at a plant in Kecskemet, Hungary, to supply chassis modules to Mercedes-Benz for its electric and hybrid vehicles. The company also unveiled a 160-kW Power Electric system for general-purpose EVs, completing a PE lineup ranging from 120 kW to 250 kW.

Why this matters

Novaky adds local production of PE systems in Europe's second-largest EV market, after China, near automakers including Kia, Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Volvo. Hyundai Mobis' European network previously covered battery system assemblies in the Czech Republic and Spain, not this core powertrain. The plant also advances Hyundai Mobis' goal of increasing revenue from global customers to 40% by 2033.
