What Happened

Hyundai Motor Group is presenting its future mobility vision and core technological capabilities at the Aachen Automotive Colloquium 2026, held in Aachen, Germany from October 5–7. The Group describes the event as Europe's premier automotive technology conference, bringing together global automakers, research institutions, parts suppliers, universities and industry experts to discuss the future of vehicle technology and industry development. Its presence includes a keynote address, technical presentations, a technology exhibition and a vehicle test-drive program. Through these, the Group is introducing global industry stakeholders to its future growth strategy and key technologies.

Key dates at the Aachen Colloquium
  1. October 5–7

The Aachen Automotive Colloquium 2026 is held in Aachen, Germany.

  2. October 6

Manfred Harrer, President and Head of R&D Division, delivers the keynote address themed "Beyond Boundaries: Scaling the Sustainable Future".

  3. October 7

Hyundai Motor Group delivers three technical presentations covering hydrogen fuel cell, electrification and battery technologies.

“The future of mobility will not be defined by a single technology. Nor by a single form of intelligence. It will be defined by how successfully we connect them. How well we connect different mobility pathways to different customer realities. How successfully we connect engineering with artificial intelligence. And how effectively we connect people, knowledge and innovation across our industry.”
— Manfred Harrer, President and Head of R&D Division, Hyundai Motor Group
The four electrification technologies in Hyundai's xEV strategy
  • Electric vehicles (EVs)
  • Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)
  • Extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs)
  • Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs)

In his keynote, Harrer said the convergence of engineering intelligence and AI-driven digital intelligence will break down traditional industry boundaries, and he positioned that integration as central to competitiveness in future vehicle development. He shared a vision of vehicles evolving into intelligent companions that understand and support users, continuously improving through data and software even after leaving the factory. To that end, the Group is building a Data Flywheel that continuously improves products and services based on vehicle data and customer experience, while driving R&D innovation through a development framework centered on digital twins and virtual validation. The Group says it draws on the distinct strengths of each electrification technology in its xEV strategy to meet different market and customer needs.

The three technical presentations on October 7
  • Duckhwan Kim, Vice President and Head of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Engineering Design Group 1, opens with a session examining the technical and market hurdles facing hydrogen adoption and outlining where the Group sees the greatest opportunities for fuel cell deployment.
  • Ki Young Jang, Vice President and Head of Electric Power Conversion Engineering Design Group, follows with a talk on how the Group plans to scale its electrification technologies to meet diverse market demands.
  • Jeonghun Seo, Vice President and Head of Battery Engineering Design Group, presents in the afternoon on how the Group's next-generation battery systems and electrification innovations are advancing future mobility.

The Group's exhibit spans two core technology areas, giving attendees a closer look at the hardware behind its hydrogen and electrification strategy. The exhibits underscore its multi-pathway approach to electrification, from hydrogen production and storage to next-generation battery and hybrid systems. The Group is also running a test-drive program featuring the All-New NEXO and GV60 MAGMA on a designated 11–12 kilometer route near the venue. The program gives attendees the opportunity to directly experience the Group's hydrogen mobility and electrification technologies.

Previously from Hyundai

Hyundai has been rolling out electrified products across markets in the weeks before the colloquium. In the United Kingdom it opened order books for the all-electric Ioniq 3 hatchback from £18,495 after securing eligibility for a £3,750 government grant, and it revealed a European-specification 2027 Tucson stretched to 4.56 m with a 50-mile plug-in hybrid variant. The Group also posted a record 77,439 U.S. deliveries in September, helped by a 39 percent rise in hybrid customer deliveries.

Why this matters

The Group calls the Aachen Colloquium Europe's premier automotive technology conference, so its keynote, exhibits and test drives put its electrification plans directly in front of global automakers, parts suppliers, research institutions and universities. That gives suppliers, competitors and researchers an early look at the mix of EV, hybrid, extended-range and fuel-cell technologies the Group says it will build its future lineup on.
