Koenigsegg CCGT1: 1,600-hp road-legal tribute to the never-raced CCGT

Koenigsegg revealed the CCGT1, a 70-unit road-legal megacar that revives the spirit of its cancelled CCGT endurance racer now cleared for historic racing.

CCGT1 production
70 units
Peak power on E85
1,600 hp
Downforce at 250 km/h
800 kg
Original CCGT weight
~1,000 kg

What Happened

The Koenigsegg CCGT1 is a limited-edition road-legal Megacar built on the award-winning CC850, itself a tribute to the CC8S. It honors the CCGT, Koenigsegg's GT1 endurance racer that was cancelled before racing a single lap. Developed with legendary engineer Dag Bölenius and set up by test driver Loris Bicocchi, the CCGT was discontinued two months after shakedown when the FIA rewrote GT1 regulations to only allow higher-volume production cars. The original CCGT has now been fully refurbished by Koenigsegg's Legend Division and will race in the GT1 historic class, while the CCGT1 carries its name and spirit into a fully homologated series of 70 vehicles, all allocated before debut.

From CCGT to CCGT1
  1. 2007

The CCGT endurance racer is unveiled with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8.

  2. 2009

Koenigsegg's Trevita project debuts industry-first white carbon fibre.

  3. 2024

After 15 years with its first owner, the original CCGT is offered for sale at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

  4. 2026

Restored by the Legend Division for a US-based custodian, the CCGT is approved for historic racing; the CCGT1 is revealed.

Original CCGT vs CCGT1
Original CCGT
600 hp, ~1,000 kg weight, 600 kg downforce, magnesium sequential gearbox
CCGT1
1,280 hp on pump fuel / 1,600 hp on E85, 800 kg downforce, twin-turbo V8, 9-speed LST, runs on any fuel blend
This is something truly special - our first creation that's designed deliberately as a track-optimized circuit scalpel as well as an extraordinary daily driver. It has been so rewarding seeing the original CCGT come back to life over the last few years.
Christian von Koenigsegg, founder and CEO

Aerodynamics and cooling are central to the CCGT1. Nearly every body panel was redesigned from the CC850; only the doors and removable roof remain. The signature is an active rear wing with 30 degrees of adjustment, automatically switching between low-drag, air-brake, and high-downforce modes. A front splitter, active underbody flaps, underfloor strakes, and a rear diffuser balance the wing's load. CFD engineer Andreas Tjernberg Persson explains that the floor does most of the work; the result is 800 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, placed between the Jesko Attack and Sadair's Spear for peak downforce but optimized for accessible grip at lower speeds. The CCGT1 also gets a roof scoop feeding an enlarged oil cooler and damper cooling for sustained track sessions. Inside, a new Koenigsegg Sequential Shift (KSS) with a clutch pedal and ASMR mode dial controls the 9-speed Light Speed Transmission; an optional ESS six-speed manual is also available.

Optional factory track package
  • Full carbon roll cage and HANS-compatible racing seats
  • Fire-suppression system and race exhaust
  • Air jacks and track-focused suspension/brakes
  • Second set of rims with track-optimized tires and enhanced aerodynamics
  • Invitation to exclusive CCGT1 track days with full factory support

Koenigsegg also reintroduces white carbon fibre with the CCGT1, after the 2009 Trevita project proved too challenging to produce. The new development, called Ghost Fibre, is a ground-up crystal-white aramid/carbon matrix. It adds ballistic protective characteristics and toughness, provides sound deadening, and allows panels to be lighter than a traditional carbon-fibre-only lay-up.

Why this matters

The CCGT1 revives a legendary project that never got to race, now returning as both a road car and a historic-class racer. All 70 units were allocated before its public debut, underlining its exclusivity. It also introduces Koenigsegg's first factory track package and the new Ghost Fibre material.

Terms in This Story

homologated
Formally approved or certified by a governing body, here for road use or a racing class.
downforce
Aerodynamic force pressing a car down toward the road, increasing grip.
E85
A fuel blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.
sequential shifter
A gear selector that shifts through gears in order, allowing faster changes than a standard H-pattern manual.
