What Happened
At CES 2026, Lucid Motors, Nuro, and Uber jointly unveiled the production-intent robotaxi that will be used in their global robotaxi service. The vehicle is based on the Lucid Gravity SUV and features a next-generation sensor array, an intuitive in-cabin rider experience, and NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor compute. The companies also announced that autonomous on-road testing, led by Nuro using supervised prototypes, began in December 2025 in the San Francisco Bay Area.

- In-cabin interactive screens for personalized journey controls and real-time visualization of the autonomous driving path
- Versatile seating for up to six passengers with generous luggage space
- Halo-mounted integrated LEDs that display rider initials and status updates
- High-performance compute based on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor for real-time AI processing
“The debut of our production intent robotaxi with Lucid and Uber is a significant milestone on our path to delivering autonomy at scale. By bringing together Nuro’s proven level 4 autonomy, Lucid’s advanced vehicle architecture, and Uber’s global reach, we’re building a robotaxi service designed for real-world operations and long-term growth.”
Why this matters
This partnership combines Lucid's EV platform, Nuro's Level 4 autonomy, and Uber's ridehailing network to create a premium robotaxi service, marking a significant step toward commercial autonomous mobility.
Terms in This Story
- Robotaxi
- A self-driving taxi that operates without a human driver, typically using sensors and AI to navigate roads.
- Lidar
- A remote sensing technology that uses laser pulses to measure distances and create detailed 3D maps of the environment, often used in autonomous vehicles.
- Level 4 autonomy
- A classification where the vehicle can perform all driving tasks under specific conditions without human intervention, but may have limitations such as operating only in certain areas or weather.
- Autonomous driving stack
- The combination of hardware (sensors, computers) and software (perception, planning, control) that enables a vehicle to drive itself.
