Luxeed opens the order book on its RX coupe-SUV from 299,800 yuan to chase Xiaomi's YU7
Luxeed, the brand Huawei builds with Chery, has begun taking deposits on the RX, an electric coupe-SUV aimed at Xiaomi's YU7 and priced from 299,800 yuan.
- 299,800 yuan (~$44,210)
- up to 852 km
- 277 kW (371 hp)
What Happened
Reservations opened on Thursday for two versions, at 299,800 yuan (about $44,200) and 359,800 yuan; the cheaper one carries a cabin-mounted laser scanner while the dearer adds a chassis wired for Level-3 driving. A full launch is due in the autumn, and the RX is the first SUV in Huawei's HIMA family to swap numbers for a letter name. The pricing lines it up against Xiaomi's YU7, which runs from 233,500 yuan to 389,900 yuan for the GT.
- Mid-to-large coupe-SUV on Huawei's Tuling base, 5,020 mm long with a 3,000 mm wheelbase
- Rear drive from a 277 kW (371 hp) motor, or all-wheel drive pairing 160 kW and 277 kW units
- Battery choices of 100.424, 100.256 and 81.1 kWh, for a claimed 852 km on the CLTC cycle
- A four-laser sensing array with 38 fused sensors, plus backups for steering, braking and power
Four laser scanners is a lot for a mass-market car, where most Chinese premium EVs make do with one to three. Behind the badge sit two well-known names: the body was penned by former Ferrari stylist Werner Gruber, of LaFerrari and FXX-K fame, and the ride was set up by Tobias Moers, once chief executive of Aston Martin.
Inside, buyers get a 26-inch head-up display, a 16.1-inch centre screen, wrap-around seats studded with 98 pressure points and a powered partition sunshade. The RX joins the S7 saloon, R7 coupe-SUV and V9 people-carrier to make four Luxeed models, and goes on show at Chengdu from 21 August. The brand has said it wants to reach a million annual sales by 2030.
Why this matters
The RX squeezes into China's most fiercely fought premium electric SUV class and brings famous ex-Ferrari and ex-Aston Martin hands to a Huawei-branded car. Its four-laser sensing rig is unusually heavy hardware for a volume model.
