China orders 4-million-vehicle recall over concealed door release handles
China’s market regulator on 21 August launched a coordinated safety campaign covering more than four million vehicles and eleven manufacturers, including Tesla and Xiaomi. The action targets interior emergency release handles that blend into cabin upholstery, which can trap passengers if a collision disables electrical systems. Carmakers will fit high-contrast badges over manual handles and distribute over-the-air software revisions. Tesla is introducing a collision routine that automatically drops door windows after an impact. The rectification precedes national standard GB 48001-2026, which bans fully concealed door opening mechanisms from January 1, 2027. The campaign’s scope spans all participating brands’ affected model lines.

Geely Auto notified China’s market watchdog on 21 August of a safety campaign covering approximately 93,000 cars under its Galaxy and Lynk & Co brands. A hardware flaw in the power chip that runs roof-mounted laser scanners can trigger electrical damage inside the laser power module over time. In severe cases, the roof scanner cuts out while driving, deactivating automated pilot features without prior instrument warning. Authorized dealerships across China will inspect affected customer cars and replace the laser scanner modules at no cost. The action centers on supplier-tier component quality in vehicles that make laser sensors standard equipment.
