What Happened
SAIC Motor's MG marque logged more than 10,000 confirmed customer deposits in one minute and 57 seconds on 21 August, when booking channels for the MG 07 battery saloon went live in China.
The reservation speed outstripped the brand's earlier benchmark achieved by the MG4 hatchback, which took close to forty minutes to hit the same threshold. Unveiled to visitors at the Chengdu motor show, the model uses SAIC's bespoke electric platform and targets younger drivers wanting a performance-styled fastback.
Overall initial reservations across Chinese dealership networks reached roughly 45,000 units over the debut twenty-four hours.
Why this matters
Fast opening reservation bursts have become a defining marketing yardstick in China's electric vehicle market. By crossing the ten-thousand order barrier in under two minutes, SAIC is attempting to establish early consumer traction for the MG 07 fastback.
