Optical sensor fault prompts 93,000-vehicle Geely and Lynk & Co safety check

Geely has launched a safety action across 93,000 cars in China spanning its Galaxy and Lynk & Co badges after finding a supplier flaw that can shut down roof-mounted laser sensors.

What Happened

China's market watchdog received a safety campaign notification from Geely Auto on 21 August covering around 93,000 cars. The action centers on a hardware vulnerability inside the power chip that runs roof-mounted laser scanners.

Affected nameplates and scope
  • Geely Galaxy M9 crossover
  • Lynk & Co 900 flagship model
  • Lynk & Co 10 EM-P, 07 and 08 plug-in hybrid variants

Subcontractor production variations can trigger electrical damage inside the laser power module over time. During severe failures, the roof scanner cuts out unexpectedly while traveling, deactivating automated pilot features without a prior instrument warning to the driver.

Authorized brand dealerships across China will inspect customer cars and swap out the laser scanner modules at no cost.

Why this matters

As Chinese carmakers make laser sensors standard equipment on premium cars, component quality across supplier tiers has become a critical reliability factor. An abrupt hardware blackout turns off automated lane and cruise systems without warning, raising safety hazards on motorways.
