Electrification
Suzuki outlined a series-hybrid architecture called REEV Light for compact models including the Fronx and Baleno, in which a 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine acts only as an onboard generator and an external charging port is added; engineering projections put the carbon dioxide reduction at 29 percent across small vehicle platforms. Scania's Irizar i6S Efficient plug-in hybrid coach won the Sustainable Bus Award 2027 in the Coach category, with a 338 kW Scania Super 13-litre engine, two 145 kW electric machines and an 89 kWh battery, and up to 94 percent lower CO2 emissions on HVO. Solaris took the Urban category with the next-generation Urbino 18 hydrogen, announced on 23 September at the FIAA fair in Madrid. Charge_iN by Mahindra reached 50 live public charging locations, the newest on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the first under its HPCL collaboration. Geely Auto Group introduced Geely Smart Charging on 24 September, with a fifth-generation station rated at 2,250 kW peak and a Next-Gen Ultra Short Blade Battery that went from 10 to 97 percent in 8 minutes 40 seconds in testing on the Zeekr 001 and Lynk & Co 10. Hyundai, Kia and LG Energy Solution began a used-battery storage demonstration at a Wonik PNE factory in Dongtan, linking retired E-GMP packs to DC fast chargers.

Kodiak AI said it plans to launch unsupervised driverless long-haul service on the 219-mile Dallas-Houston lane by the end of 2026, and on 22 September began hauling perishable produce for DTL Transport between Fresno and Los Angeles under a new California DMV permit, with a safety driver aboard. PrePass and Kodiak launched a collaboration feeding Enhanced Inspection data from Kodiak's autonomous trucks into state roadside screening systems, starting in Texas and Louisiana. Waabi reported that the Waabi Driver ran the Dallas-San Antonio lane with zero new real-world data, zero simulated data and zero route-specific engineering. Wayve and Mercedes-Benz signed a definitive production agreement to integrate the Wayve AI Driver into future Mercedes-Benz vehicles, with advanced urban point-to-point driving assistance starting in the next two years. MAN Truck & Bus is adding an intersection assistant, revised drowsiness detection and predictive ACC to the TGE for model year 2027, with production starting in early September at Wrzesnia. NVIDIA presented Halos as a full-stack safety system, citing TUV SUD certification of DriveOS 6.0 to ISO 26262 ASIL D.

Software & Connectivity
PwC's inaugural Global Automotive Outlook, launched on 24 September 2026 in London, projects the share of automotive companies using AI and other advanced technologies rising from 47 percent today to 72 percent in 2030, based on a survey of 720 executives across 33 countries and territories. The report says 76 percent of companies allocate capital to their highest-return initiatives and 51 percent cite talent shortages as a barrier. General Motors began rolling out digital keys for select 2026 and 2027 Cadillac EVs, stored in Apple Wallet, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet and built on the Car Connectivity Consortium standard, with a broader set of Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac vehicles arriving in December.
Manufacturing & Supply Chain
PowerCo, the Volkswagen Group's battery business, now expects its St. Thomas plant in Canada to begin building cells in 2029, roughly two years after the 2027 start it had been working toward, citing a change in demand, the chance to fit more advanced cells and its parent group's future direction; EllisDon was appointed to keep on-site construction moving. CATL began trial production on 22 September 2026 at its new cell factory in Debrecen, Hungary, starting with the first two production lines and aiming at 100 GWh as its largest base outside China; the company has produced 537,000 modules in Debrecen since autumn 2024. Maruti Suzuki commissioned a 300 kW green hydrogen electrolyzer pilot at its Manesar facility in Haryana, blending the hydrogen with natural gas as process fuel, and aims to cut manufacturing carbon emissions from 615,000 tonnes to 266,000 tonnes in FY 2030-31. Union minister Nitin Gadkari said Ashok Leyland is evaluating an EV battery plant in Bhandara with an outlay he put at Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore; Ashok Leyland has not confirmed the project.

Finance & Earnings
Tesla announced on Friday via Weibo that customers booking vehicles on or before October 31 can access direct price reductions and promotional financing across its China lineup, including a 5,000 yuan reduction on all Model 3 trims and a 7,000 yuan discount on selected Model Y configurations, plus up to five years of zero-interest lending. The company said the campaign follows three consecutive months of year-on-year delivery contractions in China, including a 26 percent slide for the Model Y in August.
Deals & Partnerships
BAIC FOTON Motor and WEICHAI Power signed a strategic cooperation agreement on September 21 at a ceremony at the BAIC R&D Center, covering component supply, new-energy products and connected technology, with the stated goals of strengthening coordination between vehicle manufacturing and the powertrain value chain and improving cost efficiency. Mercedes-Benz signed a deal giving it priority access to ProLogium's newest Gen4 cells for evaluation of electrical behaviour, heat response and safety at Mercedes facilities and outside institutes; the agreement does not commit either company to vehicle production, and ProLogium says its planned Dunkirk factory could eventually reach 44 GWh of capacity.
Product & Launches
Tesla handed over multiple series-production Semi trucks to customers at its new Nevada facility, a site covering about 167,000 square metres and designed to build as many as 50,000 trucks a year; Tesla did not disclose its current production rate, volume targets for 2026 or 2027, or the Semi's sale price. Tata Motors launched the Aeris compact sedan from Rs 5.29 lakh for petrol and Rs 6.29 lakh for iCNG, reserved for personal buyers and never to be sold into fleets, with fleet demand served by the Xpres-T brand. Nissan unveiled the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid for the U.S. market with its e-POWER system, in which only electric motors drive the wheels; the model will be assembled at Nissan Motor Kyushu in Japan.
Battery cell and charging capacity, driverless freight lanes and new model launches all advanced during the 21 to 25 September 2026 period, with CATL starting trial production in Debrecen and Kodiak AI targeting a year-end driverless launch.
