Electrification
Ljubljana's municipal operator LPP put 35 locally CO₂-free Mercedes-Benz buses into operation within one year: 25 battery-electric eCitaro and ten eCitaro G fuel cell models. The operator also established the required charging and hydrogen infrastructure and revised its operational processes for the new drive technologies. The purchase is the largest fleet modernization project in LPP's history, and the city links it to its participation in the European '100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities' initiative. Riders get quieter buses with modern safety and assistance systems.
Autonomy & ADAS
Aurora Innovation announced a non-binding memorandum of understanding under which Charger Logistics intends to purchase up to 500 Aurora Driver-powered trucks, delivered over 2027 and 2028 and deployed on routes near the U.S.-Mexico border and throughout the country. Charger signed its first Aurora contract in July. Zac Andreoni, Aurora's Vice President of Business Development, said the launch of the company's second-generation hardware and trucks means Aurora is ready to support customers' ambitions to grow their networks. Separately, Xpeng received a municipal permit in Guangzhou for citywide Level 4 robotaxi demonstration trials under its Yoyo label, using four proprietary Turing processors with 3,000 TOPS of onboard compute.
Software & Connectivity
Valeo and Anritsu will jointly showcase a digital twin validation solution for software-defined vehicle connectivity at the 5GAA 39th Meeting in New Delhi from October 26 to 29, 2026, expanding their March 2026 MWC demonstration to include emergency call use cases. The companies say virtual validation reduces the need for physical track testing across thousands of combinations of mobile networks, environments and vehicle states. Volkswagen Group named NXP a strategic semiconductor partner, with NXP's S32K5 microcontrollers intended as core processors for the zonal architecture being developed by Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies, LLC, the joint venture between the two companies.
Manufacturing & Supply Chain
Ather Energy's board approved roughly 122 crore rupees of capital expenditure on October 26, 2026, adding 225,000 units of annual assembly capacity. At Hosur in Tamil Nadu, 53 crore rupees go toward an integrated battery production line; in Maharashtra, up to 64 crore rupees go to Factory 3.0 in the AURIC industrial district at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, lifting planned capacity from 500,000 to 650,000 units by the second quarter of fiscal 2028. Total planned production rises to 1.145 million electric two-wheelers. Audi, meanwhile, is planning its first U.S. production site and said the move is not a decision against Germany.
Deals & Partnerships
Samsung SDI America signed a 1 GWh energy storage system supply agreement with U.S. developer Alpha Omega Power, bringing the two companies' combined contracts to 1.5 GWh. Cells and modules will be made at the StarPlus Energy plant in Kokomo, Indiana, and delivered by the end of this year; Alpha Omega Power plans to begin construction in the WECC and ERCOT power markets next year. In China, Audi finalized agreements on October 26 assigning its four-ring models exclusively to FAW, including the A6L e-tron and Q6L e-tron, while SAIC dedicates its capacity to the ringless AUDI electric sub-brand, with SAIC showrooms permitted to sell existing four-ring inventory through the end of 2027.
Regulation & Policy
Audi is recalling 9,048 Q4 e-tron electric SUVs after concluding some high-voltage packs can enter thermal runaway; no such fire has been recorded in these cars, and until a repair exists a temporary limiter holds charging at an 80% ceiling. The packs came from SK Battery Manufacturing in Hungary, a plant belonging to SK On, and most suspect batteries were sold in North America. Leapmotor International B.V., 51% owned by Stellantis and 49% by Leapmotor, obtained the Europrivacy data protection seal from DNV under Article 42 of the GDPR on October 26, 2026. NHTSA announced its first major tire safety standards overhaul in more than 20 years, using negotiated rulemaking with up to 18 stakeholders.

Hyundai Motor India introduced the Bayon crossover on October 26, 2026, with introductory ex-showroom pricing starting at 9,99,900 rupees and reaching 18 lakh rupees for flagship grades across seven trims and 11 specifications. The vehicle is built at the company's Sriperumbudur complex near Chennai and features twin 12.3-inch curved digital displays on an Nvidia-backed cockpit platform, Level 2 Pro driver assistance and six standard airbags. The 4.2-metre model sits between the Venue and Creta, and local manufacturing supports domestic sales and exports to 50 international destinations.
