What Happened
NIO said the third-generation ES8 delivered 10,999 units in August. That was 6.91% above July's corrected count of 10,288 vehicles. NIO disclosed the August number on Weibo, while the July revision was aligned with China Passenger Car Association data.
The August result was more than 125 times the year-earlier figure, when only 87 ES8s were delivered during the model changeover. NIO's namesake brand delivered 21,174 vehicles in the month, putting the ES8 at 51.95% of that total; the model accounted for 30.69% of NIO Inc.'s 35,836 deliveries across its brands.
The ES8's January-to-August deliveries reached 99,946, up 2,231.92% year on year and just 54 vehicles shy of 100,000. Cumulative deliveries for the third-generation model passed 140,000 on August 21, according to the company data cited in the report.
NIO launched the five-seat ES8 variant in July at a starting price of 382,800 yuan with the battery included, or 274,800 yuan under its battery-as-a-service plan. The variant extends the flagship SUV into a larger five-seat segment and is central to the model's recent sales mix.
Why this matters
The ES8 is carrying an unusually large share of NIO's volume: the model represented 51.95% of the namesake brand's August deliveries. The result gives NIO a public-data signal that the five-seat version is broadening demand beyond the traditional three-row SUV buyer.
