What Happened
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced that the e-POWER system in the all-new 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid has been named a winner of the 2026 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems award. The annual list recognizes the top powertrains in the U.S. market for innovative engineering, power, torque and efficiency. It is the 25th time a Nissan vehicle has been named to the list. The all-new Rogue Hybrid is also the first U.S.-market application of Nissan's e-POWER technology and, according to Nissan, the only hybrid in its class with a 100% electric drivetrain.
38mpg combined
Nissan also estimates 41 mpg city and 36 mpg highway; actual mileage may vary with driving conditions.
Nissan has developed e-POWER over three generations and says it has sold nearly 2 million e-POWER equipped vehicles globally in 68 countries since 2016. Engineers specifically tuned the system for North American driving conditions, speeds, road surfaces and customer habits. Its 5-in-1 design uses a dedicated gas engine that operates as a generator and shuts off entirely when the battery has sufficient charge, while dual electric motors drive the wheels directly. Because there is no transmission to shift, Nissan says the Rogue Hybrid delivers smoother, more responsive acceleration and a seamless driving experience.
“The all-new Rogue Hybrid delivers more of what customers have been asking for, combining the functionality and technology of our best-selling Rogue with an advanced hybrid powertrain that is smoother, quicker and quieter than the competition. Every part of Rogue Hybrid's e-POWER technology was designed around the customer, redefining the standard for hybrid compact SUVs.”
- Smooth Stop technology, a first in class, automatically modulates brake pressure at the end of a stop to reduce head-toss and create a more controlled stop.
- e-Pedal one-pedal driving lets drivers slow the vehicle to a full stop simply by lifting off the accelerator, using one-pedal regenerative braking; Nissan says it is the only vehicle in its class with this feature.
- Nissan says the Rogue Hybrid is the only hybrid in its class with a 100% electric drivetrain.
Nissan has sold nearly 2 million e-POWER equipped vehicles globally in 68 countries, across three generations of the technology.
The 2027 Rogue Hybrid reaches dealers, initially launching with the all-wheel-drive SR with the SR Technology Package in limited availability.
The full model range (SV, SR and Platinum) is expected, with Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices starting at $35,490 for the SV grade.
Previously from Nissan
Nissan's U.S. retail volume rose 7.8 percent in the third quarter of 2026, extending its year-over-year expansion run to 19 consecutive months. Globally the picture was weaker: August 2026 sales slid 17.5 percent to 207,162 vehicles and production fell 19.5 percent, even as Nissan's home market of Japan grew 9.7 percent.

Why this matters
The award is outside recognition for a hybrid design Nissan is bringing to U.S. buyers for the first time, in its Rogue compact SUV. It matters most to shoppers comparing hybrid compact SUVs, because Nissan says the Rogue Hybrid is the only hybrid in its class with a 100% electric drivetrain. Buyers will have to wait: the first cars reach dealers in fall 2026, with the full range and lower-priced SV grade due in early 2027.
