What Happened
Rolls-Royce’s latest Phantom Extended commission is called Hummingbird and was created for a private client through its Dubai office. The cabin’s central artwork uses abalone shell for the first time in one of the marque’s motor cars.
The two picnic tables each carry a 53-piece bird motif, and a separate rear panel uses 84 additional shell and mother-of-pearl pieces. Development lasted more than nine months, with 45 hours spent completing the three marquetry panels; the exterior is finished in Wildberry and White Sands.
Why this matters
The commission illustrates how the brand’s bespoke business uses rare materials and labour-intensive craft to create differentiation beyond vehicle engineering.
