Scania, Unicon, and Liebherr deploy fully electric concrete truck in real-world operations

Battery capacity

400 kWh

Operational range

200 km

Additional electric vehicles on order

10

What Happened

Scania, Unicon – Denmark's leading concrete producer – and Liebherr-Mischtechnik have jointly developed a fully electric concrete transport solution. It combines a battery-electric Scania truck with an integrated electric concrete mixer system, enabling zero tailpipe emissions in demanding building site environments.

The vehicle features an installed battery capacity of up to 400 kWh and offers an operational range of around 200 kilometres. The configuration was optimized using route simulations and energy modelling to ensure performance in daily operations.

This project shows that electrification is not limited to standard applications. It can be applied where it matters most.
Tobias Ejderhamn, Global Manager, Transformation & New Business, Scania
This is not a pilot, it is a solution designed for daily operations and future scale.
Christian Elleby, Supply Chain & Procurement Director, Unicon

Scania and Unicon are already preparing to expand the deployment, with an additional 10 electric vehicles on order. By 2027, Unicon aims to operate a significantly larger electric fleet, supporting its ambition to achieve only emission-free concrete transport by 2035.

Why this matters

Concrete transport has been considered one of the most challenging segments to electrify due to high energy demand and complex operations. This successful deployment demonstrates that even energy-intensive applications can be electrified, advancing decarbonization of constructio…

Terms in This Story

ePTO
Electric power take-off, which draws energy from the vehicle's battery to power auxiliary equipment like a concrete mixer.
Ready-mixed concrete
Concrete that is manufactured in a plant and delivered to a construction site in a freshly mixed state.
Zero tailpipe emissions
The absence of pollutants emitted from the vehicle's exhaust, typical of battery-electric vehicles.
