What Happened

Voyah (HKEX: 7489), a subsidiary of Dongfeng Motor, opened pre-orders for its Dream 9 MPV on Saturday. The five-version range offers three plug-in hybrids and two battery-electric models, with prices starting from 429,900 yuan ($63,420) and topping out at 529,900 yuan across Ultra, Ultra+, and Lizun specifications. Pre-launch incentives worth up to 50,000 yuan are currently on offer. Display vehicles have reached Voyah stores across China for customer test drives, though a formal launch date has yet to be announced.

Underneath, the Dream 9 uses an electrical architecture rated ready for L3 self-driving and Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system paired with the HarmonySpace 6 cockpit platform. Voyah lists 37 sensors, among them one primary 896-channel dual-optical-path LiDAR and three solid-state LiDARs, giving coverage of city streets, highways, and parking situations. HarmonySpace 6 runs on MoLA 2.0 with a fresh multimodal large language model, and the brand says its SystemAgent uses a model of hundreds of billions of parameters.

All trims are based on an 800-volt electrical system. In the hybrid models, a 65-kWh battery supports 5C fast charging, refilling from 20 to 80 percent in 12 minutes; a 1.5-liter turbo engine teams with front and rear electric motors to generate 555 kW combined. The battery-electric variants instead carry a 120-kWh pack, which Voyah says is the biggest fitted to any MPV today, and their front and rear motors produce 175 kW and 300 kW respectively.

The MPV is equipped with three-chamber air springs, dual-valve adaptive dampers, 10-degree rear-axle steering, and a unified chassis domain controller. Sizing spans 5,325 mm in length and 1,998 mm in width over a 3,200-mm wheelbase. The passenger cabin features multi-function second-row captain's chairs capable of swiveling, side-to-side shifting, zero-gravity reclining, and powered massage. Styling appointments include a motorized, backlit bonnet emblem alongside Huawei-developed XPixel intelligent projection headlamps capable of beaming navigational guidance and lane warnings directly onto the road surface.

Voyah deliberately held no launch gala for the Dream 9; Chairman Lu Fang earlier said the automaker wanted to cut marketing noise and let consumers test the car firsthand. The company expects the model to strengthen portfolio margins and commercial returns. In the first half, Voyah's revenue climbed 42.4% from a year earlier to 18.16 billion yuan, while deliveries gained 35.9% to 76,264 units. Gross margin fell to 17.7%, and the division swung to a 389 million yuan net loss, compared with a 460 million yuan profit a year earlier.

Previously from Dongfeng Motor Corporation

Voyah reported first-half revenue of 18.16 billion yuan (about $2.68 billion), up 42.4% year over year. Higher raw-material costs dragged the premium division to a 389 million yuan net loss for those six months.

Why this matters

The Dream 9 is Voyah's bid to move upmarket in China, pairing Huawei driver-assistance and cockpit tech with a body longer than five meters. It arrives after Voyah swung to a 389 million yuan net loss in the first half, and executives hope the flagship will bolster margins and commercial returns. For buyers, a key draw is a 120-kWh battery that Voyah calls the largest offered in an MPV.
