What Happened
Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., has delivered the first of two Enviro200 single-deck buses to English operator Roberts Travel Group. The buses were bought specifically for a new contract with the University of Leicester, which will use six Alexander Dennis buses on the route: the two Enviro200 plus four Enviro400 already in the fleet. Both new buses came from Alexander Dennis stock and are painted in Roberts' charcoal-and-silver livery. They are Roberts Travel Group's first current-model Enviro200, following a quartet of double-deck Enviro400 buses, the most recent of which was bought from Alexander Dennis this summer.
- 10.8 metres long, each with 35 forward-facing high-backed seats fitted with belts
- Five tip-up seats in the wheelchair bay, plus wood-effect flooring
- PSVAIR-compliant, with audio-visual next-stop announcements and an induction hearing loop for the hard of hearing
- Lightweight and fitted with Alexander Dennis's SmartPack efficiency technology
- Officially classified as low-emission buses
- Four, the most recent bought from Alexander Dennis this summer
- Two; the first has been delivered and they are Roberts' first current-model Enviro200
- Six in total, made up of the two Enviro200 and the four Enviro400
“It was an easy choice to buy these two Enviro200 from Alexander Dennis, due to the reliability and style of the Enviro400 buses, which have been very popular with our customers as well as with our team. We were keen for all the vehicles on the new University of Leicester contract to have a family look, and the Enviro200 and Enviro400 from Alexander Dennis certainly look very striking in the Roberts livery. We're also delighted to be buying British, to support UK manufacturing.”
“It's such an honour to deliver another two vehicles in Roberts' smart livery, especially knowing they'll be part of a full Alexander Dennis fleet running on the new Leicester University route. The 10.8m Enviro200 is a fantastic bus, with excellent fuel efficiency and manoeuvrability complementing its spacious interior and excellent seating capacity. Congratulations to the Roberts team and thanks for the repeat business – we can't wait to see the new buses running on the streets of Leicester.”
Roberts Travel Group is based in Hugglescote, Leicestershire, and was founded in 1995 by Chairman Jonathan Hunt. In 30 years it has grown into one of the Midlands' largest coach operators, running its own tour programme as well as private hire, park-and-ride services and corporate contracts. The company says it prides itself on customer service with immaculate vehicles, and this year opened a new state-of-the-art booking office and customer lounge at its headquarters. The launch of the new service at the University of Leicester was marked by Alex Niemczyk, Simon Wood and Roberts Travel Group Commercial Director Sally Walder.
Previously from Alexander Dennis
Our recent coverage shows Alexander Dennis delivering vehicles from stock to UK regional operators on a similar pattern: in August 2026 Scottish operator Watermill Coaches took its third Enviro200 from stock for a new local service contract, and in September 2026 Leicestershire operator Beaver Bus received an Enviro400, the first brand-new vehicle it had ever bought. Roberts Travel Group's order follows the same approach, with the two new buses also supplied from Alexander Dennis stock.

Why this matters
The order shows how a single university bus contract can pull a whole route's fleet toward one manufacturer: six Alexander Dennis buses in total will serve the new service. Passengers on the University of Leicester route get newer buses with belts, next-stop announcements and a hearing loop, while Roberts Travel Group, one of the Midlands' largest coach operators, builds on its existing Alexander Dennis fleet.
