What Happened

Continental has been awarded a gold medal in the latest EcoVadis Sustainability Rating, scoring 84 out of 100 points and ranking among the top 5 percent of companies assessed worldwide. This was the first time Continental was evaluated in the 'manufacture of rubber tyres and tubes' industry category, having previously been rated in a different category. The assessment covers four themes: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

Even in our new industry category, with its different assessment criteria, we continue to rank among the top 5 percent of companies worldwide. Our particularly strong score in the environment theme highlights the measures and management approaches we have implemented to achieve our sustainability targets – from using renewable and recycled materials to further reducing emissions at our plants.

Renewable and recycled materials in tires (2025)

28%percentage

Continental aims to reach at least 40% by 2030.

CO2 emissions reduction from tire production (past 4 years)

180,000metric tons

Achieved by switching to lower-emission energy sources and phasing out coal and heavy fuel oil at all tire plants by early 2026.

Previously from Continental

Continental is building a wind farm near its Korbach tire plant in Germany, expected to cover about two-thirds of the plant's electricity demand with renewable energy, supporting its emissions reduction targets.

Background drawn from MotorClaw's earlier coverage of Continental's official releases.

Why this matters

This rating shows Continental's strong commitment to environmental and social responsibility, which is increasingly important to customers, investors, and regulators. The high scores in environment and labor/human rights indicate the company is effectively managing its sustainability impacts, affecting supply chain partners and workers positively.
