What Happened
Continental has launched a new 32mm size extension for its Aero 111 road tire, developed in collaboration with DT Swiss and Swiss Side. The wider variant is optimized for challenging road conditions and maximum comfort on long-distance rides, while offering the tire's proven drag-reducing performance. The front-wheel-specific tire is now available in three widths: 32-622, 29-622, and 26-622.
The Aero 111's patented tread pattern features 48 precision cavities that act as vortex generators. By manipulating airflow around the front wheel to delay separation, the tire achieves optimal efficiency at all yaw angles, significantly reducing drag and amplifying the sailing effect to propel riders forward with less effort. This technology makes it Continental's most aerodynamic tire, according to the company.
Despite its wider profile, the Aero 111 32mm compromises nothing on speed or durability. It uses Continental's race-proven BlackChili compound for low rolling resistance and reliable grip in wet and dry conditions. Puncture protection is provided by the Vectran™ Breaker layer, shared with the Grand Prix 5000 family, while the casing is fully Tubeless Ready and hookless rim compatible. The tire is made in Germany.
- Weights: 250g (26-622), 280g (29-622), 310g (32-622)
- Dimensions: 26-622, 29-622, 32-622
- Color: Black/Black
- Technology: BlackChili Compound, Vectran Breaker
- Tubeless Ready, hookless rim compatible, made in Germany
“With the addition of the 32mm width, we truly are offering aero performance from every angle. Developing the Aero 111 alongside Swiss Side has allowed us to build a tire like no other, one that performs across even the most demanding conditions. The Aero 111 has already proven the benefits of advanced airflow management but this additional width allows us to bring those same aerodynamic gains and ”
Previously from Continental
Continental has been expanding its bicycle tire range this month. On August 6, 2026, it added 13 new Gravity MTB tire combinations across four tread patterns for trail, enduro, and downhill riders. The new Aero 111 32mm width builds on this push into performance bicycle tires.

Why this matters
The new 32mm width brings Continental's aerodynamic technology to road cyclists who want comfort on long rides and rough roads, not just racing speed. The tire's 48 vortex generators reduce drag and enhance the sailing effect across wind angles, helping riders go faster with less effort. Continental now offers this aero tire in three sizes, covering more riders.
Terms in This Story
- Vortex generator
- A small feature that creates vortices in airflow to reduce drag and improve aerodynamic efficiency.
- Sailing effect
- A phenomenon where a spinning wheel acts like a sail, helping propel the rider forward with less effort.
- Yaw angle
- The angle between the direction of travel and the direction of the wind.
- Tubeless Ready
- A tire design that allows use without an inner tube when mounted on a compatible rim with sealant.
