What Happened

Marelli has partnered with the FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum, which opened to the public to celebrate the history of motorcycle racing, contributing a selection of its Electronic Control Units (ECUs) developed for leading two-wheel championships. The permanent showcase highlights the role of electronics in the evolution of modern motorcycle racing. The museum was created by the FIM, the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme, in Mies, Switzerland, and features more than 40 official motorbikes, from early racing classics to today's bikes. It takes visitors through nine themed areas and seven disciplines: Circuit Racing, Motocross, Enduro, Rally, Trial, Track Racing and Electric. Organized around the three pillars of "Heroes", "Technologies" and "From Race to Road", the exhibition also highlights breakthroughs in technology, equipment and engineering that have powered victories on track.

Timeline of Marelli ECUs for two-wheel championships
  1. Early 2000s

    The MVL4 ECU becomes the first Marelli unit to use multiple processors, opening the door to advanced features such as traction control, anti-wheelie, engine braking and electronic throttle control (Drive-by-Wire).

  2. 2014 to 2023

    The ultra-compact AGO-340 engine and vehicle control unit, with its high control capabilities, is used in MotoGP championships.

  3. 2023

    The BAZ-340 ECU, evolved over more than 10 years in MotoGP, enters use in the championship.

The ECU showcase is organized as a technological timeline within the museum's Marelli section, titled "Everything is detectable - electronics". The REX-140 is a compact and cost-effective unit with a dual-core microcontroller, especially suited to Moto2, Endurance and Special series. Its rugged off-road sibling, the REX-120, made a significant mark by winning the legendary Dakar Rally and numerous other championships. The BAZ-340 builds on the AGO-340 with enhanced computational power for advanced control strategies and high-speed communication.
