Maruti Suzuki initiates rail car shipments to Tamil Nadu Pollachi terminal to handle 11,000 vehicles annually
Maruti Suzuki India has operationalized a new freight corridor terminating at Pollachi Junction, giving the carmaker capacity to distribute upwards of 11,000 finished automobiles yearly by train.

What Happened
Working in tandem with Indian Railways, the company commissioned the Pollachi site following recent facility enhancements via the national Amrit Bharat station redevelopment programme. The location bolsters existing southern dispatch operations centered in Coimbatore.

The debut train departed Maruti Suzuki's plant siding in Manesar on 18 August carrying a mixed batch of 120 cars, including Celerio, Dzire, Ertiga, and Wagon R units, prior to reaching destination tracks.
Since initiating railway distribution during FY2014-15, cumulative train dispatches have topped 32 lakh units. Rail shipments accounted for 26.5 per cent of outbound factory volumes in FY2025-26, up from 5 per cent a decade earlier, toward a 35 per cent goal by FY2030-31.
