Maruti Suzuki tops 1 million in-plant rail dispatches from Hansalpur and Manesar sidings
Maruti Suzuki India has shipped over a million vehicles by rail from sidings inside its Hansalpur and Manesar plants, and more than three million by rail overall.

- More than 3 million
- Around 790,000
- 35%
What Happened
Maruti Suzuki India has now moved more than one million vehicles out by rail from the sidings built inside its own plants, at Hansalpur in Gujarat and Manesar in Haryana. The carmaker presents the rail route as a way to depend less on road transport for moving finished cars. In May 2026 the company said rail had carried more than three million vehicles cumulatively across all of its rail links, a wider figure than the in-plant total.
- Around 790,000 vehicles
- Around 210,000 vehicles
Maruti Suzuki says it is the only Indian passenger-vehicle maker operating dedicated in-plant rail sidings at both Hansalpur and Manesar. The two links serve the factories directly rather than relying on public freight yards.
“Going forward, we aim to increase the share of rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35% by FY2030-31 and plan to establish an in-plant siding at our new Kharkhoda facility.”
Why this matters
The milestone shows how one carmaker is moving finished vehicles onto trains instead of trucks, which trims its dependence on road transport. It involves two manufacturing states, Gujarat and Haryana, plus the logistics suppliers that handle vehicle movement. Maruti Suzuki now wants rail to carry a far bigger share of its dispatches by the end of the decade.
