What Happened
Opel will present the Opel Sports Tourer eXperimental Concept, or STX Concept for short, at the Paris Motor Show — the Mondial de l'Auto — which runs from October 12 to 18. The show car is the Rüsselsheim manufacturer's vision of future estates, and the 'ST' abbreviation links it to Sports Tourer models such as the latest generation Astra Sports Tourer. The name also signals the next stage of Opel's design philosophy: even bolder, even purer, even more emotional and even more efficient. At the same show, the new Opel GSE 27FE Formula E racing car celebrates its world premiere and the new Corsa GSE hot hatch, now on sale, makes its exhibition debut.
“Our Opel STX Concept reinterprets the estate! With its bold design, the latest concept car from Rüsselsheim reaffirms what we at Opel understand by German engineering paired with visionary design. The STX Concept gives a taste of how exciting and emotional the estate of tomorrow can be – with maximum functionality and efficiency. The study shows characteristic features that will be found in future Opel models and underlines Opel's role as an estate pioneer in Europe.”
- A new chapter: Opel presents a vision for future estate cars at the Paris Motor Show.
- Bolder, purer, even more emotional: a new Opel Vizor lighting signature with lamella light animations, an even more prominent vertical Opel Compass, an illuminated emblem and a clean, downward-sloping rear.
- Pure efficiency: intelligent aerodynamic solutions with extendable diffuser elements and alloy wheels in a three-zone design.
The most striking element is the further development of the Opel Vizor, which is higher and more prominent than in its previous iterations and than the ultra-slim 'face' of many electric cars today, matching the size of the vehicle and reflecting its German character. Its new lighting signature uses precise vertical slanting lamellas that form the outside boundary of the Vizor but fade gradually towards the centre, while the illuminated Opel Blitz forms the visible centre of the Opel Compass and the crease in the bonnet is further emphasised by the sporty, sharp front design. At the rear, the body drops steeply, combining the highest practical benefit through extra cargo-compartment space with modern design. There the Opel Compass is even more precise, with slim illuminated compass axes and an illuminated OPEL wordmark in the centre, and the horizontal taillights on the left and right reflect the lamella look of the front.
The surfacing is flush, precisely shaped and technically styled — most visibly at the striking C-pillars, where glass light strips protrude from the window line towards the rear and continue into the roof of the STX Concept. Illuminated 'STX' lettering on the sides tapers towards the front, and geometrically precise, sharply defined cameras on the driver's and passenger's sides replace the usual wing mirrors. The side view, shimmering in silver and blue, is dominated by a low, aerodynamic silhouette designed for long-distance efficiency and stability at high speeds on the German Autobahn, with a sculpted body, short overhangs and wide flared areas around the wheel arches. Inside, the plan is for designers and engineers to realise an interior that continues the 'Painting with Light' idea of the 2023 Opel Experimental and the 2025 Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo, with immersive lighting elements and special lightweight seats.
- An active aerodynamic system continuously adapts to the driving situation, using moving elements at the rear to optimise airflow, reduce drag and improve stability.
- At the right speed, blue-coloured diffusers protrude from under the rear, and behind the wheels vertical bumper elements extend sideways to the rear to support the streamlined stance.
- The concept rides on aerodynamically optimised three-section alloy wheels combined with 285/35 R22 Goodyear tyres.
- It combines an innovative electric architecture with all-wheel drive and a top speed of over 200 km/h.
- These solutions are intended to reduce consumption and increase range, directional stability and driving pleasure.
Opel introduces the Olympia Rekord Caravan; the manufacturer was largely responsible for the breakthrough of the estate in Europe as early as the 1950s, and the Kadett Caravan and many other models up to the latest Astra Sports Tourer followed.
The Opel Experimental introduces the 'Painting with Light' idea that the STX Concept interior will build on.
The Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo continues that lighting idea and takes it further.

Previously from Opel Automobile GmbH
Opel had already released the first images of the STX Concept in late September, describing it as a show car that reimagines the estate body style and hints at a bolder new version of the brand's Vizor front end. The brand had also said it would stage two world premieres — the STX Concept and the GSE 27FE Formula E race car — on a five-lane, Autobahn-inspired stand at the Paris Motor Show.

Why this matters
Opel says the study shows characteristic design features that will be found in future Opel models, so the STX Concept is a preview of where the brand's design language is heading. It also underlines Opel's self-described role as an estate pioneer in Europe, a body style that matters to families and long-distance drivers in the region.
