What Happened
Eicher Motors' board has cleared Rs 1,225 crore for the opening phase of Royal Enfield's greenfield factory in Andhra Pradesh. At full utilisation, that phase is designed to produce another 4.5 lakh motorcycles each year, with the company targeting FY30 for completion.
The plant near Tirupati will be Royal Enfield's first manufacturing base outside Tamil Nadu. The company has outlined a total project investment of Rs 2,500 crore, to be deployed in stages as it builds capacity for domestic and overseas sales.
The Andhra project sits alongside an expansion at the Cheyyar facility in Tamil Nadu. Together, the investments are intended to give Royal Enfield more room in the mid-sized motorcycle market as demand grows.
Why this matters
The project gives the premium-bike maker a second production state as it expands beyond its Tamil Nadu base. It also adds a large capacity block aimed at both Indian and export demand, although the completion target remains subject to market conditions.
