Skoda brings the Superb diesel back to India for a 2027 arrival
Skoda has revealed the fourth-generation Superb for India ahead of a launch expected in the first half of 2027, returning a diesel engine to the Volkswagen Group's Indian range for the first time since 2020.
- 150hp / 360Nm
- 9.2s
- First half of 2027
- Rs 55-60 lakh
What Happened
The range-topping Laurin & Klement trim will arrive as a fully imported car, and dealerships are already taking interest registrations, with deliveries pencilled in for the second quarter of 2027. It is the first time the current-generation Superb is formally sold to Indian buyers, and the first Volkswagen Group diesel offered locally in six years.
- A 2.0-litre turbo-diesel making 150hp and 360Nm
- A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic driving the front wheels
- A claimed 0-100kph time of 9.2 seconds
- An electronically capped top speed of 225kph
- Matrix LED headlamps and 18-inch dual-tone alloys
- A 12.9-inch touchscreen and a 10-inch driver's display
- A 14-speaker Canton audio system and triple-zone climate control
- Ten airbags, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 driver assistance
As an imported model, the Superb is tipped to land between roughly 55 lakh and 60 lakh rupees, positioning it against premium sedans such as the Toyota Camry. A planned India-EU trade deal due in 2027 could trim import duties and soften that price.
Why this matters
Diesel had all but disappeared from India's passenger-car market once stricter emission rules landed. Reviving it in a flagship import suggests Skoda still sees a market for a premium long-distance sedan even as the segment thins out.
