What Happened
SAIC Motor reported total group sales of 349,000 units in May and 1.651 million units from January to May, maintaining its leadership in China's automotive industry. The company saw strong growth across self-owned brands, NEVs, and overseas markets.
Self-owned brand sales hit 263,000 units in May, up 14.7% year-on-year, marking the fifth consecutive month of growth. From January to May, self-owned brand sales reached 1.173 million units, accounting for 71.1% of total volume for the first time. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle sales surged 37.7% in May, while IM Motors and Maxus saw gains of 77.5% and 43.7% respectively.
New energy vehicle (NEV) sales surged 46.5% in May to 182,000 units. From January to May, NEV sales reached 595,000 units, up 13.2%. IM Motors' January-May NEV sales jumped 114.6%, and SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle's NEV sales more than doubled, rising 195%.
Overseas sales totaled 589,000 units from January to May, up 45.9% year-on-year. In Europe, MG sold 150,000 units, retaining its title as the top-selling Chinese auto brand. On May 28, SAIC Motor celebrated the delivery of its 100-millionth customer, a milestone marking the first Chinese automotive group to exceed 100 million cumulative vehicle sales.
