What Happened
IAA Transportation 2026 officially opened in Hannover on September 14, and Shandong Heavy Industry Group appeared with its new energy product portfolio. The exhibits included SINOTRUK's five vehicle models, led by the new-generation SITRAK 4×2 battery-electric tractor, Weichai Power's customized CTB battery, and Hande Axle's latest drive axle. Wang Zhijian, chairman of Shandong Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd., led a tour of the exhibition and attended the new product launch event.
SINOTRUK showcased five vehicle models on the first day of the exhibition, with the new-generation SITRAK 4×2 battery-electric tractor standing out as the highlight. Designed in response to the global trend toward the zero-carbon transition of line-haul logistics, the model targets key medium- and long-haul zero-carbon logistics applications and directly addresses major challenges in heavy-duty truck electrification, including range, energy consumption and operational adaptability. Many overseas customers examined the vehicle up close and spoke highly of its long range, low energy consumption and rapid charging, expressing strong recognition of SINOTRUK's battery-electric line-haul heavy-duty truck capabilities.
- High-end natural gas power solutions
- A hydrogen internal combustion engine hybrid powertrain
- A new-generation underfloor battery for heavy-duty trucks
For the European market, Weichai released four NG4.0Pro natural gas power solutions in 13 L, 14 L, 15 L and 16 L variants, covering the full range of application scenarios in combined transport and line-haul logistics. The new WPH15DI hydrogen internal combustion engine hybrid powertrain adopts a P2 parallel hybrid architecture to achieve close coordination between hydrogen power and electric drive, addressing the high energy consumption and limited stability associated with conventional hydrogen power systems and offering a new pathway for the zero-carbon transition of heavy commercial vehicles and construction machinery. Weichai also joined industry partners in launching the "Europe Zero-Carbon Action Initiative for Co-creating a New Ecosystem for the Green and Intelligent Equipment Industry."

A 20-minute charging session on Weichai's new-generation EM300 underfloor battery enables four hours of driving; the battery offers 600 to 800 kWh of energy capacity and supports a charging current of 1,200 A.
Hande Axle, backed by 17 years of expertise in the R&D and manufacturing of electric drive axles, displayed its latest drive axle, which combines high load capacity, high efficiency and high power in a highly integrated design. The product can coordinate closely with vehicle control and power battery systems, reducing driveline energy consumption and improving vehicle range while ensuring structural reliability under a variety of heavy-duty operating conditions. The company says it provides a mature, mass-production-ready integrated drivetrain solution for the large-scale deployment of new energy line-haul heavy-duty trucks.
At the Hannover exhibition, Shandong Heavy Industry Group demonstrated full-chain innovation with a complete new energy lineup spanning vehicles, power systems and electric drive axles. Using the global platform provided by IAA Transportation, the group attracted customers from around the world and strengthened its global brand presence. It says it will continue to expand internationally through an integrated offering of technologies, solutions and services, supporting the green transformation of global logistics.
Previously from Sinotruk
Our earlier coverage, published on Sept. 3, 2026, reported that Sinotruk planned to bring five SITRAK models to IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 in Hannover, including a 4×2 battery-electric tractor with more than 500 km of range. Today's story describes that lineup and the wider Shandong Heavy Industry Group exhibit arriving at the show.

Why this matters
The show debut shows China's Shandong Heavy Industry Group pitching a complete new energy chain — vehicles, power systems and electric drive axles — to global buyers at Europe's main commercial vehicle exhibition. Its Weichai unit released natural gas power solutions specifically for the European market, so European fleets and rival manufacturers are the audience. For buyers, the pitch rests on solving heavy-truck electrification limits such as range, energy consumption and charging speed.
Terms in This Story
- line-haul
- Long-distance freight transport between terminals or distribution hubs, typically running trucks over highways for extended periods.
- P2 parallel hybrid
- A hybrid layout in which an electric motor sits between the engine and the transmission so engine power and electric drive can propel the vehicle together.
- kWh
- Kilowatt-hour, the standard unit for measuring the energy stored in a battery or consumed over time.
- electric drive axle
- An axle that integrates an electric motor and gearing so it can drive a vehicle's wheels directly.
