What Happened
GWM has filed an all-electric version of its Wey V9X flagship SUV with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the model appears in the latest batch of new-product filings released Friday. The regulatory catalog lists a single configuration for the V9X EV. The filing follows through on GWM's May pledge to add all-electric and conventional hybrid variants of the V9X later this year.
The Wey V9X launches as a plug-in hybrid with three variants starting at 349,800 yuan (about $51,510).
GWM says conventional hybrid and all-electric versions will follow later in the year.
An all-electric V9X appears in an MIIT filing, disclosing dimensions, motors and battery supplier.
According to the filing, the all-electric V9X measures 5,299 mm in length, 2,025 mm in width and 1,825 mm in height, with a 3,150 mm wheelbase and a six-seat layout. These dimensions match the long-wheelbase specification of the plug-in hybrid version. Curb weight is listed at either 2,805 kg or 2,840 kg, and gross vehicle weight is 3,390 kg.
Power comes from two drive motors with peak outputs of 220 kW and 320 kW, giving the SUV a top speed of 220 km/h. The battery is a nickel-cobalt-manganese ternary lithium unit supplied by Svolt Energy, a GWM-affiliated battery maker. Driving range and battery capacity have not yet been disclosed.
- Closed dual-chamber air suspension
- Large-angle rear-wheel steering
- A dual-screen interior
- Zero-gravity seats
The V9X is the first production model based on GWM's Global One S platform and is positioned as an AI-powered luxury six-seat flagship. The plug-in hybrid that launched May 18 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with GWM's Hi4 system and an 800-volt architecture, offering up to 470 km of CLTC electric range and as much as 1,700 km of combined range. GWM is targeting more share in China's premium SUV market, and last month opened reservations for the Wey V8X, a five-seat SUV on the same platform positioned as a smart flagship focused on driving and handling.
Why this matters
The filing puts GWM on track to deliver the all-electric V9X it promised when the plug-in hybrid launched in May, giving premium-SUV buyers in China a battery-electric alternative. GWM is leaning on the V9X and the related V8X to gain share in a competitive segment, and reservations for the V8X are already open.
