What Happened
Great Wall Motor (HKEX: 2333) will launch its Wey V8X five-seat flagship SUV on August 14. Chairman Wei Jianjun announced the date on Weibo on Saturday, August 8, saying engineers will take the stage to explain the vehicle and answer user questions live. The event is expected to start at 7:30 pm. Wei described the launch as another format innovation following the GWM H10's launch event.
As the second production model on GWM's Global One S platform — after the six-seat V9X — the V8X is pitched as the platform's smaller, five-seat sibling. Body dimensions land at 5,125 mm in length, 2,025 mm in width and 1,821 mm in height, riding on a 3,050 mm wheelbase, while cargo space runs 864 liters and stretches to 2,225 liters with the rear seats folded flat. Reservations began July 29 without a confirmed price, though a 2,000 yuan ($295) refundable deposit applies toward a 5,000 yuan credit at purchase.
Powering the range-topping Ultra+ trim is a 2.0T engine paired with GWM's Super Hi4 hybrid system and a purpose-built four-speed hybrid gearbox, together good for 500 kW and 930 Nm of torque. GWM quotes a 0-100 km/h sprint of 4.5 seconds on a full charge, stretching slightly to 4.7 seconds once the battery runs low.
The vehicle is powered by a 66.6-kWh battery built on an 800-volt architecture that supports 6C fast charging, adding 170 km of range in five minutes. The CLTC all-electric range is 402 km, with a combined range of 1,659 km. On the software side, owners can use voice commands to start the vehicle, change lanes, make U-turns and park, and it supports point-to-point Navigation on Autopilot (NOA).
Competition in China's premium SUV segment is intense, and GWM is pushing on multiple fronts to keep pace. Regulators have already logged a filing for an all-electric take on the V9X — a 5,299 mm-long six-seater carrying dual motors at 220 kW and 320 kW. Wey-brand deliveries came to 7,725 units in July, a 23.10% year-on-year decline but a 7.43% gain over June, while the January-through-July tally stood at 52,239 units, up 17.29% from the same period last year.
Wey V9X goes on sale with a starting price of 349,800 yuan

“I'm also looking forward to how this event turns out. See you on August 14, friends.”
Why this matters
The V8X is a key product in GWM's push into China's fiercely competitive premium hybrid SUV market. It pairs a powerful hybrid powertrain with an 800-volt architecture and voice-controlled driving features, which could appeal to buyers looking for performance and convenience. The launch also follows a filing for an all-electric V9X, showing GWM's broader electrification strategy.
